Hi Online-Marketing,

It was the first week of February, 1994 and I had
just gone through the Northridge earthquake 2 weeks
earlier. It was a 6.7 on the Richter scale, though
some went to court over the next few years to prove
it was more likely a 7.1 or above. My house was less
than a mile from the epicenter when the shaking began
at 4:30 in the morning that day.

When the phone rang I thought it was the insurance
company calling, but it turned out to be the foster
care agency I had been approved with the month before.
They had a five year old boy, displaced because of
the earthquake, who needed to be placed immediately
in a new foster home. Could they bring him over? the
social worker asked.

R.J. had been through more in his five years than
most of us go through in a lifetime, and he wouldn’t
look at me while we all stood in the driveway. He
arrived with two plastic bags of clothes, too small
for him now and smelling of cigarettes from his
previous foster family. There was also a bicycle, also
too small for him but obviously a prized possession.
I fought back anger and tears and announced to the
social worker that he would leave my home someday with
boxes, not plastic bags, and a bike he could ride.

I went inside to get Mickey, my little dog, and that
was when R.J. finally made eye contact with me.

“I never holded a dog before,” he said. “Could I?”
Mickey was his first friend, and the first living
creature to love him unconditionally.

A week later the Winter Olympics began in Norway,
and R.J. was mesmerized by it all. His Kindergarten
didn’t begin until nine each morning, so we could
stay up until ten to see as many of the events as
possible each evening. I had borrowed a television
because mine had been destroyed during the earthquake.
Soon after, R.J. decided he wanted to be a “sports guy”
and I volunteered to teach him how to skate.

I love the Olympics and the winter games bring me
back to this time every time they come around. Are
you watching the Olympics this week?

The point of this story – every word true – is that
we never know when we will be called upon to help
someone in need. I’d love to tell you that R.J.
went home to a loving family a year later, but that
would not be the truth. Instead, I stayed involved
with the family for several more years, and he is
now approaching his 30th birthday.

Becoming an online entrepreneur was not a decision
I made lightly. It involved lots of learning and
much sacrifice, and continues to be the smartest
decision, or at least one of them, I’ve made during
my lifetime.

You are a part of my community because you want a
different lifestyle than you currently have. I know
you, because you are an earlier version of me. And
that is why I can serve you on this entrepreneurial
journey, if you choose to allow me to be your guide.
I promise it will be the hardest journey you’ll ever
take, and the most significant one of your life.

For today, simply write down your “why” for wanting
the life of an entrepreneur. Once you let me know

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I asked
you to connect with me on Linked if we weren’t
already? I told the story of how it had taken
me two months to go from 3600 to 3800, and that
I wanted to get to 4000 connections more quickly.

Then I shared that my goal was to get to 5000
LinkedIn connections by March 1. I’m happy to

and should reach 5000 connections by Friday

How was I able to accelerate my progress with

is the energy to start something and momentum
means once you start it’s easy to keep going.

This works whether you are writing a book,
creating a new information product, or even
when you are mastering a new habit or skill.

is as simple as I’m making it out to be.
