Hi Online-Marketing,

It’s interesting (the Finnish word for
this is mielenkiintoinen) to spend time
with my family in a time zone that is
either nine or ten hours different from
mine. I have severe dyslexia, so sometimes
I add instead of subtracting to figure
out what time it is. They think this is
all quite funny and I actually enjoy it
when they gently tease me about getting
the days and nights confused.

What isn’t funny is when we can’t figure
out something we want or need to do with
our online business. And if someone were
to tease me about it I might react in a
way that would show them my frustration.

Hi Online-Marketing,

This week my Internet has huffed and puffed
and even shut down completely for periods
of time. This is the story…

Over the years I have taught people from
around the world how they can run a lucrative
online business from wherever they have an
Internet connection. With more than a billion
people now having Internet access, it seemed
fair to assume it would always be running for
them. Never say always.

Here in Finland, where I am still on holiday
with my family, they are known for having a
reliable Internet system. Yet over the past
week it’s been down more often than up. This
forced me to plan for alternatives so that I
could still do what I had planned and intended
while I’m away from home.

It turns out that the public library and local
coffee houses are still the best alternative
when it comes to having reliable Internet away
from your home base. So we can still work on
an Internet business from anywhere in the world,
as long as we have an Internet connection.

Hi Online-Marketing,

Yesterday we spent the day on the shores
of Lake Sääksjärvi. What was interesting
was that we had bees swarming around us
throughout the day, and this story ended
up on the evening news. It turns out the
bees know to stay out of their hives when
the temperature gets too high to cool off
their living space for them.

It got me to thinking about us as online
entrepreneurs. Do we have the instinct to
do what is necessary in our businesses
in order to grow them to the proportions
we had in mind originally? And if not, do
we even know who and what could make a
huge difference in this area of our lives?

Perhaps these questions are too lofty to
entertain on a weekday during the summer,
or is that simply another question?

Of course, I do not have all the answers
nor should I when it comes to your business

The time difference between the west coast
of the U.S. and Europe seems to suit me well.
My vacation and travels continue, and next

Hi Online-Marketing,

Thanks so much for your thoughts and
prayers regarding the fire near one of
my homes back in the States. Things are
looking up as the wind shifted and it
moved further north. When I return home
I will help with the cleanup and relief
efforts for those people who were not so
fortunate with this disaster.

Your focus definitely changes when these
things happen in our lives and now I’m
able to shift my own focus to family here
in Europe who are so special to me.

Today my family and I visited the city of
Hämeenlinna, Finland. We spent hours at a
medieval castle, walking the streets made
of cobblestone, and relaxing on the lake
in a very small boat. This city is the
birthplace of famed Finnish composer Jean
Sibelius, one of my favorites.

When we returned to our summer cottage
this evening I came online to do some work
for my online business. This included:

Hi Online-Marketing,

It’s truly frustrating to be thousands
of miles from home when a catastrophe
strikes. If you’ve heard anything about
the “Sand Fire” in the Santa Clarita area
of Los Angeles, you know that this is
where I live part-time. And even though
I have competent and caring people there
to watch over my pets, it feels wrong to
not be able to be there in person.

Your thoughts and prayers are greatly
appreciated during this time.

What is comforting is knowing that I’ll
be able to charter a flight to get back
within fourteen hours if the wind shifts
ever so slightly to the west, and that’s
because of the business I’ve built on the
Internet over the past decade.

Have you established yourself in a way
that gives you the time and financial
freedom to do what you need to do if an
emergency arises? Are you still working

Hi Online-Marketing,

Right now I’m in a summer cottage in
the town of Hudiksvall, Sweden, more
than ten thousand kilometers from my
home in California. It’s about three
in the morning and my family is sound
asleep just a few meters away.

I share this with you to make a point
that I believe is of great importance;
you can run an online business from
anywhere in the world where you have
an Internet connection. This was not
possible before the turn of the century,
and by that I mean that it was at least
the year 2000 before online business of
this caliber was around. I discovered
it in 2005 and within a few months had
decided to leave my teaching job and real
estate clients and jump in full time.

The rest is history, and now I simply
cannot imagine any other life. Do you
have this same dream, of financial and
time freedom from anywhere in the world?
