Yesterday I had a wonderful visit with
the giraffes at the Santa Barbara Zoo,
but three week old Parker did not come
out to play. I’ll be going back there

Hi Online-Marketing,

For the twenty years prior to coming
online a decade ago, I worked as a
classroom teacher while simultaneously
running real estate business. And for
all of that time I had a terrible secret…

No one in my real estate world knew
that I had a day job as a teacher. So
every Monday morning I would head off
to the classroom while the phone was
ringing off the hook with calls from
mortgage lenders, banks, attorneys,
and clients.

When I came home around five I had to
spend many hours returning phone and
email messages, faxing documents, and
catching up on everything so that the
remainder of my week would go smoothly.

I still have memories of Mondays in my
head, so these days I make sure to have
a relaxing Monday morning and then get
started during the early afternoon.

The point I’m making here is that you
can do what works for you as an online
entrepreneur, and I want to help you
make that transition in your life.

Hi Online-Marketing,

Today I’m going to be doing some name
dropping, so my apologies in advance
if this is not what you expect from me.
Just this morning I was speaking with
Robert Trumbo. He is the grandson of
famed screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who
was blacklisted in Hollywood during the
1950s. Later he received the Academy
Awards he missed out on for films like
“Roman Holiday” and “Lonely Are the
Brave”. I’ll be working with him on a
new project for a non-profit group.

Now let’s talk about membership sites.
Long ago, while I was still a classroom
teacher I used to stop by Blockbuster
Video after school on Friday. By getting
there before four I missed most of the
weekend crowd and was able to rent a new
movie to watch over the weekend. At some
point I stopped doing this and then they
went out of business. Do you remember this?

Netflix came on the scene soon after, and
I joined to see what it was like. It was
perfect for my lifestyle and millions of
other people felt the same way. The only
difference at the time was that I became
a member and I am still billed $7.99 each
month, whether I watch something or not.
We even watched movies through my account
while I was in Finland and Sweden this
summer.

The membership model works.

Weinman for my podcast series? Email me
if you’d like the link. She’s a friend of
mine and we first met while at a dinner
for Marty Scorsese in Santa Barbara. (I
warned you about the name dropping) Lynda
started a little site called Lynda.com
in 1997 and LinkedIn bought it for $1.5
billion in April of 2015. Why was it valued
so high? Because it’s a membership site and
the members were paying monthly or annually
to continue learning there.

Membership is coveted by many people.
