Hi Online-Marketing,

If you are new to my community this week – Welcome!
I’m honored to serve you and to help you to achieve
your goals.

Today I’m ringing the bell for the Salvation
Army in Santa Barbara. It’s part of the work
we do in my Rotary Club to help the community.
It’s also the first day in four weeks I have
not been the primary caretaker for my elderly
family member who was in a serious car accident.

He has a brain injury, and it isn’t easy being
there for him in this way. I know it’s the right
thing to do, but that should not be the reason
I am here for him. He’s been there while I have
been ill in the past, and he was there for my
mother until she took her last breath. Again,
these are not reasons to care for him now.

In my thinking, the right reason is because he is
in need right now. Simple things, like remembering
to take his evening medication become lost in his
thoughts. And he can be demanding, like when he
insisted I make him a green bean casserole one day
last week. I had never made one of those, so I went
online for a recipe and made it happen. He ate it
three times a day until it was gone.

This is definitely a time for me to practice
humility, compassion, and patience. Being gone
for 12 hours today, standing on a street corner
in downtown Santa Barbara and interacting with
the public, will get my thinking straight on this.
