Online-Marketing, he didn’t think I was funny at all

Hi Online-Marketing,

The question came swiftly from my
six year old grandson, Samuel and
was directed right at me.

‘What do you mean they have July
4th all over the world?’

Samuel lives in Finland, so I chose
my words carefully.

‘There is a fourth day of July all
over the world, but in the United
States it’s a national holiday.’

Then he gave me ‘the look’. It’s
the look a child gives an adult
when they have used language to
make a point.

‘And what’s so special about it?’

Then I gave him the lecture about
independence, and what it means for
me and how it all came together so
that I can spend time with him and
his sisters every single summer and
why he and I have the chance to build
our relationship on a very regular
basis. I saved the part about all of
my hopes and dreams for him and why
he will have opportunities that are
based on freedom and independence
for another day.

‘May I have another hot dog?’

He’s one smart boy, and I am blessed
to have him in my life.
