Hi Online-Marketing, Early on in my entrepreneurial endeavors a man from my Rotary Club asked me to please explain this “online business thing” I was involved in. His question caught me by surprise, as I wasn’t sure how to tell him what I was doing each day. I ended up telling him I was teaching adults all over the world how to have a home based business to replace the income they made in the day to day offline world. That made sense to him, and since that day a decade ago when we had that conversation I have expanded my definition considerably. But the focus remains on the relationships, resources, and sound advice that I and just about everyone else working online builds as an integral part of their business. Hi Online-Marketing, Yesterday I returned to California after almost a week in Park City, Utah for an incredible conference. After enjoying gorgeous weather for this entire week, it all changed just an hour before my flight took off. I like to talk to strangers, and it turned out that quite of few of the passengers were en route to Kona, Hawaii. They would change planes in Los Angeles and arrive on the “big island” of Hawaii just in time for a late supper at the beach. That all changed as were delayed more and more with this shift in the weather. By the time our flight was airborne the pilot announced that the gate in L.A. would be unable to hold their plane and that they’d have to wait until the following day to fly over from the mainland of California to Hawaii. No one ever wants to hear this kind of news. I pride myself with being a problem solver, and went over some scenarios in my mind. What if… …we made up lost time in the air? (We did) …the people at each of the gates could expedite the process? (They could) …everyone on my flight cooperated and allowed the 32 Hawaii bound passengers to disembark first? (They could make an announcement when we landed) The first two of these scenarios did indeed occur. The third did not, and when that little “ding, ding” sounded 199 passengers got up in unison to get off the plane. My heart sank. Now if you’re in first class, or in the ten rows behind first class then you’re in pretty good shape. If you’re in row 38, then not so much. I waited for the pilot or a flight attendant to make an announcement. Nothing. And that’s when I climbed atop my seat in 12C and took over the plane. This was a Boeing 737 – 800 series and one of my favorites when I fly. I know a few things about them and one is that the acoustics are such that sound travels well (too well at times) from the front to the rear. My voice carries (too well at times) and I can be heard if need be. Barnum, the man who is credited with inventing show business and whom became an entrepreneur before the age of twelve. Hi Online-Marketing, For most of this week I have been quite fortunate to see more than fifty new film previews as well as several feature length films. To be in movie theatres before eight in the morning, surrounded by scores of other cinephiles eagerly awaiting the lights to go down and the films to begin is a little slice of heaven for me. I’ve been sworn to secrecy with much of of what I’ve seen, but I’m able to share that some of the films I am most looking forward to include: “Murder on the Orient Express” “Only the Brave” “Ferdinand” One of the studio reps made a statement that I loved, in regards to the film reel he brought along to show us. He introduced them by saying… “We make films that are unapologetic.” So how does all of this apply to online business, marketing, and positioning yourself as an expert? Everything. When you offer a product, course, or a service to people who will most benefit you are put in the position of selling yourself to them with your words and information. You must not apologize for your thinking and beliefs, even when others are teaching something different from what your experience and intuition tells you is right. This happened to me when I began increasing my online income substantially while my list was still just a few hundred people strong. I was unapologetic is stating that you could indeed get to six figures a year with a small list. My “huge profits with a tiny list” site, course, and bestselling book followed, and the rest is history. Believe in yourself enough to be confident with what you write, publish, speak on, and teach to others. Hi Online-Marketing, I’m truly getting an education at the film event here in Park City, Utah this week. Much of the language is foreign to me and learning how people who own movie theatres speak about what they do helps me to know how to better help and serve them with my marketing expertise. Over the past twenty years I’ve been to Park City five times for the Sundance Film Festival, which occurs every January. That means I have only seen this area blanketed in snow. This week the leaves are turning colors, the wind whistles through the highest branches, and the ski runs and hills are the most beautiful color – green!
