Are you old enough to remember the
‘Pick your Path Adventure’ books
from the 1980s?
Here’s how they worked:
Say it was a book about a safari
adventure. It opens up with the
characters in a jeep on the Africa
plains as they begin their jungle
safari.
After a couple of pages the reader
is asked to make a decision…
‘To head north toward the watering
hole turn to page 3’
OR…
‘To head east into the jungle turn
to page 10’
The reader chooses which path and
turns to that particular page. There
could be multiple paths and multiple
decisions points per book.
Now think about this same kind of
Adventure Book only NOW with the
advanced technology we have…
You can create Kindle eBooks that
have this fun decision path story
telling method built into them. And
the best part is you don’t have to
tell the reader to ‘Go to Page x’
(which is a little cumbersome, if you
ask me).
With Kindle you can have a link that
says, ‘Click here to head north toward
the watering hole’ and like magic the
reader is instantly on the path he
chose in the story!
Much better user experience, don’t you agree?
