Hi Online-Marketing, This past week two of my clients separately came to Santa Barbara for VIP days with me. In each case, we were following up on work we had done together over the previous six months. One is a man I first met in my other city, Santa Clarita. He’s an actor-writer-singer-voiceover creative who wants to achieve bigger goals in his career. When we began last spring he was paying someone to go to auditions for him and paying someone else to call agents and authors about doing voice over work. He thought of this as the “easy button” yet not getting any results. I told him he had to do the work; make the calls himself so others could hear his voice and attend the auditions in person so they could see and hear and get to know him. His results are massive now and he is being paid well to do the things he does best. The other client is an author who was having someone else do her marketing and even some of her writing. Now she is doing all of this herself, based on what I am teaching her and her results are outstanding. In both cases, they told me it was easier to do this work themselves because they were missing out on important opportunities. Are you willing to do the work when it comes to building your online business? Learn what you need to do and then do it. It’s truly that simple and continues to work for me. Hi Online-Marketing, On my podcast yesterday I spoke of a play during Game 7 of the World Series that almost changed the course of history. The home plate umpire called a player out for interference. The call was controversial and new fans of baseball like myself saw it as unfair, and we weren’t alone. It turns out that call is a “judgment call” and could not be reviewed. In that moment one team stood at the crossroads of success or defeat and it was only because of plays that occurred afterwards that they prevailed as the winners of the World Series. We all make judgment calls every day. And when we do we must also live with the consequences. Today I want you to think about this in regards to your future as an entrepreneur. Hi Online-Marketing, Yesterday I stopped by the store to pick up a few things. I’m in the habit of parking as far away from the entrance as possible to get some additional steps in, and as I walked towards the entrance I was aware of a black box, about the size of two shoe boxes tucked behind the trash can just outside the front door. Not wanting to get any closer I entered the store and asked for the manager. He went outside to investigate and when he came back inside I can’t believe what he said… “We are overrun with rats and the pest control company is placing those traps near every entrance. It’s nothing dangerous or to be afraid of.” Nothing to be afraid of?! Just how big are those rats?! That was my Halloween scare, for sure. Today is the last day of October and Halloween is celebrated in many places. We get at least a hundred trick-or-treaters and I’m ready with candy I do not like. These days many people are doing this easily but when I got started it wasn’t that way. This morning I was reading an article entitled “Middle Age and the Art of Self-Renewal” and it details the life of education reformer Elizabeth Peabody. She was the first woman to be allowed into the Boston public library in the late 1820s, and this permission was rescinded a month later. We must take full advantage of all opportunities that are presented to us if they are ones that will be life changing for us and our families.
